MESSAGE FROM THE CITY MANAGER Ken Striplin; May 2015

As we approach the summer months, it’s time to plan for outdoor outings and events.  We hope that you will make plans to enjoy the terrific programs and facilities right here in Santa Clarita.  Whether it’s a swim program, free concert in the park or viewing an international cycling event, we work hard to make your local experiences fun and memorable.

The City’s aquatics center offer great swim programs, including group and private swim lessons, lap and recreational swim, water exercise, adult swim, and even stand up paddle boarding classes. Special aquatics introductory programs include diving, water polo and synchronized swim clinics.  Whichever class or program you and your family choose, you will enjoy it in one of the City’s well-maintained and supervised pools located at Newhall Park, North Oaks Park, Santa Clarita Park, Valencia Glen Park, Valencia Meadows Park and the Santa Clarita Aquatic Center. Check it all out at: www.santa-clarita.com/seasons.

In anticipation of the Amgen Tour of California coming to Santa Clarita on May 14, the City will be hosting the Hit the Trail community bike ride.  The free family-oriented bike ride will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 9 from Valencia Heritage Park.  For more information about the Hit the Trail community bike ride, other cycling events  or the Amgen Tour of California, log on to SantaClaritaTourofCA.com

If you are looking for something for your children to do this summer, I encourage you to check out Camp Clarita.  This City-run day camp program, held at city parks, provides a safe, fun environment that serves the recreational needs of youth in Santa Clarita.  For more information or to sign up for day camp, visit www.santa-clarita.com/seasons.

If you have any comments or suggestions, please feel free to email me directly at: kstriplin@santa-clarita.com. Thank you for helping to make Santa Clarita one of the best communities in California.

MESSAGE FROM THE MAYOR Marsha McLean; May 2015

One of the most important things we do here at the City is to provide a safe, clean, healthy environment for you and your family.  This involves many things including law enforcement, land use planning, financial management, care and maintenance of our City streets, trails, parks, sidewalks and open space, as well as providing educational and informational opportunities you and your family need.

Your participation in the City’s work efforts is vital to our success.  When you offer your time and talent to help our community, you are going a long way towards investing in our City.  Over the next few months, you will have an opportunity to weigh in on programs and projects that will impact our community for years to come.  These projects are part of our long range plan called Santa Clarita 2020

The Santa Clarita 2020 (visit www.SantaClarita2020.com for more information) plan includes a variety of long-term projects that will help our City thrive well into the future.  By planning now, we will be better positioned to provide the excellent programs, facilities and services you enjoy.

Right now, you have an opportunity to provide input on a future Saugus Library Center.  We are working towards creating a state-of-the-art facility that will provide convenient access to Saugus residents for library services as well as recreational opportunities.  Visit SantaClarita2020.com to complete the survey and let us know what you would like to see in this new facility.

Another project we are very excited about is a new Canyon Country Community Center.  The City purchased six and a half acres on the corner of Sierra Highway and Soledad Canyon, for the purpose of designing and building a new Community Center to replace the temporary one at Sierra Highway and Flying Tiger.

Some other major work efforts include the creation of a new Arts Master Plan; upgrading Old Orchard Park; designing the Sand Canyon Trail; and designing a first-ever Tennis Center at Central Park.

I encourage you to sign up on our eNotify to receive regular email updates on these and other City projects, events and programs.  Visit www.SantaClarita.com/eNotify and check the boxes for the projects that interest you.

Thank you for your participation in our City.  Please don’t hesitate to email me with your thoughts and ideas at: mmclean@santa-clarita.com.
