Tis the month of the green here in beautiful Santa Clarita where the hills are alive with flowers and grass and your City is preparing for our greenest event of the year—Earth Arbor Day!

Presented in partnership with the SCV Family of Water Supplies, Earth Arbor Day is a fun, festive and free way to learn about new eco-friendly products, programs and local organizations, as well as to increase your family’s environmental awareness.

The 2015 Earth Arbor Day event will be held on Saturday, April 11, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Central Park, located at 27150 Bouquet Canyon Road.   The event will include six interactive zones including; the Community Zone, the Eco Zone, an Alternative Transportation Car Show, the Children’s Zone, the Tree Zone and the Water Conservation Zone. Entertainment, hands on activities and educational displays, together with creative recycled art exhibits and decorated residential recycling carts make for a very green day in Santa Clarita!

If that isn’t green enough, you will also be able to take home a bag of garden mulch created from last year’s Christmas trees.  And if you are bringing the young ones, they can tour the City’s Community Gardens, learn about how helpful ladybugs are for the garden, make scarves from old t-shirts and bring home an herb plant.

The Castaic Lake Water Agency is offering guided tours of their Conservatory Garden located above the park site.  Live musical entertainment and animal show, plus an interactive water conservation demonstration are also included.  For more information on the City’s Earth Arbor Day event, check out: GreenSantaClarita.com.

March 2015

Old Town Newhall is the place to be on Thursday nights from March through October, when Main Street is transformed into a true arts and entertainment venue with Thursdays at Newhall!

We are continuing our most popular Thursday night events and offering some new and fun happenings in the coming year to bring all kinds of free entertainment to enjoy in Old Town Newhall.  No need to travel “over the hill” to experience a great night life.

On the first Thursday evening of the month between March and October, enjoy ArtSLAM -- an open air gallery combining local artists into a one night pop up gallery experience, from 6:00-10:00 p.m. We’ve combined this with JAM Sessions (presented in partnership with the Ford Theatre Foundation), which is an interactive series inviting residents of all skill levels to release their inner artist through salsa, tango, drumming, square dance and much more.

Entertainment planned for JAM Sessions in 2015 includes: Bollywood Dance on March 5; Square Dance  on April 2; Japanese Folk Dance on May 7; African Dance and Drums on June 4; Drum Circle on July 2; Swing Dance on August 6; Salsa Dance on September 3 and Tango Dance on October 1.

On the second Thursday evening of the month, a new event called “Revved Up,” brings together automotive enthusiasts and their classics including hot rods, exotic cars and motorcycles along Main Street.  The themes for 2015 include: Classic VW’s on March 12; Trucks and Off-roading vehicles on April 9; Traditional Rods and Customs on May 14; Custom and Classic Motorcycles on June 11; Imports on July 9; Antiques on August 13; Low Riders on September 10 and Oddball Cars on October 8.

And on the third Thursday evening of the month is the wildly-popular SENSES; a themed block party featuring popular performers, gourmet food trucks, and a variety of activities in a fun and festive adult setting.  This year’s themes include: Luck o’ the Irish on March 19; Country Throwdown on April 6; Masquerade on May 21; Let it Ride on June 18; Christmas in July on July 16; Woodstock on August 20; Hot Havana Nights on September 17 and Sports of all Sorts on October15.
