With Justice Kennedy’s rejection of the state’s request for extra time to downsize the state prisons, Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich reiterated his call for a cost-effective alternative that addresses the federal court’s order and protects public safety.

“Now, the Governor has only two choices - transfer inmates to in-state and out-of-state detention facilities through contracting, or release 9,000 dangerous felons into our communities,” said Antonovich. “It’s a no brainer.  The Governor needs to stop pussyfooting and immediately utilize available detention beds at less than half the cost of the state’s prison beds.”
