LOS ANGELES COUNTY — Supervisor Kathryn Barger issued the following statement on the Trump administration’s decision to phase out DACA:

“Comprehensive immigration reform is desperately needed on the federal level to fix our broken immigration system.  President Trump has given Congress an opportunity to do what they were elected to do, and immediately pass permanent bipartisan legislation on DACA.

President Obama, upon the enactment of DACA, called his Executive Order, ‘a temporary stopgap measure,’ further stating that, ‘Precisely because this is temporary, Congress needs to act.’

Congress should consider previously-introduced legislation by Senators Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) and Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) which allows young ‘Dreamers’ to earn permanent residency and a pathway toward citizenship.  It’s time for Congress to act.”
