Was signed up to attend my first Nightclub and Bar show (NCB Show) last year but at the last minute I couldn’t make it. Our Contributing Editor Michael Perlis went a few years back and seemed to enjoy it (read his coverage here).

My interests were not only on what the latest bar programs have to offer - as my co-hosting of Cocktails on the Roof enters its fourth year – but also things I could learn in the classes that I could share with readers as well as Eve Bushman Consulting clients.

What I Tasted and Saw

A lot! See most in these three photo grids that include innovative or new spirit brands like Bacardi, American Anthem Vodka, Bitter Queens, Elite Beverage International’s line of tequilas, Mule 2.0 canned Moscow Mules, Jell-O Shots, alcohol infused coffee creamers, breweries, Buzz Pop Cocktails (think Push-Up pops at your bar), a Cannabis Pavilion complete with Muscat wine meant to go with your smokes or alone, Drake’s Organic Spirits, Kelvin Slush Company, Smokin’ Mary Bloody Mary mix, other mixers, coffee and Sangria.

But the bar show exhibitors were not limited to drinks alone, we saw some incredible gizmos to help with operations, bar equipment, ideas for décor, entertainment, point of sale systems (referred to as POS), insurance services, different types of ice cube delivery systems, personalized coasters, plastic barware, many pre and post carbonated beverages to help avoid a hangover, pickle juice, olives and my favorite Honey Smoked Salmon.

What I Learned

I had marked off several classes I wanted to attend, including motivating employees, audience retention, theft, building the team and more. These are the classes I took and will be writing about them in the subsequent weeks on Eve’s Wine 101:

Why Go?

In conclusion I’d say it’s a must attend if you own a bar or restaurant, work in the industry or want to. Some of the people I met were there with their staff for “team building” and not attending the classes, just there to enjoy the convention floor and several evening parties we could attend. But the classes didn’t lack in attendees. Most all were filled, and I mean standing room only. Even I sat on the floor for one! Goes to show that there are a lot of people in this industry that care about their staff, their businesses and making everything work for the benefit of us, the consumer.
