(By Chris Sharp) This is goodbye.  In about a month it will be about a dozen years when I aired my first Beacon commentary.  That was then a recommendation for Cameron Smyth when he was first running for a state assembly seat.

Since then I have written many hundreds of weekly columns for the SCV Beacon, which I have attempted to devote to important subjects that other media columnists seem to be ignoring.  This is why there is a part of me that is sad to be stopping now,  just when all hell is breaking loose at least in Washington.  But I am also a bit sad because without me writing columns all of the topics that have been a bit too ignored will now be a bit too increasingly ignored now.

Still, right now, the column-writing parts of me are breaking down.  I will be 70 in a few months, and column writing is not the only thing about me that is breaking down.   But also, with all the real-life absurdities that are developing around us now, it is getting more difficult to take real life seriously enough now for me to write about it seriously.

So I thought in my final column here I would do something I have never done before in this space – I will finally reveal my political identity.

Who is this masked man, then?  Who is this Chris Sharp?

Basically, I have put a mask over my politics over the years in reaction to all the columnists who basically only write about why they are Democrats and why everyone should be a Democrat.  Or all the Republicans who only write about why they are Republicans and why everyone should be a Republican.

But here is my secret – I am neither a Democrat or a Republican. I am instead a card-carrying, dues-paying Libertarian.  And like every Libertarian, I feel that all of our lives would be better off without so much government ego around with its big dirty feet on us.

And like so many Libertarians, my revulsion against government controlling and bullying is not so much based on intellectual or political content with me  -- it is a visceral reaction of mine.   Just the glimpse of government bullying in the news if enough to give me a kind of suffocating feeling.

A Sharp View:  A fond Libertarian farewell to y’all
