Residents are invited to join the City of Santa Clarita City Council, the Arts Commission, Arts and Events staff and representatives from Santa Clarita Sister Cities on Wednesday, March 22, 2017, from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m., at the Valencia Library for a free reception celebrating the newest exhibit, “Peace through People.”  This exhibit is presented in partnership with Sister Cities International, Santa Clarita Valley International Program, and Santa Clarita Sister Cities Program.  The showcase is touring select cities across the United States, with Santa Clarita being the only host city in California.  The exhibit showcases original artwork, essays and poetry by young artists and authors from around the world, including Santa Clarita’s Cristal Ramirez from Golden Valley High School, sharing their vision for a more unified and peaceful world.  Come enjoy light appetizers and entertainment, and meet others who are interested in art and creative communication.

For nearly three decades, Sister Cities International has leveraged the power that art has to transform societies and transcend cultural boundaries through the Young Artists and Authors Showcase.  Young artists, authors, photographers and filmmakers are sharing their vision of peace and expressing how connecting globally allows them and their communities to prosper.  Over 100 entries were submitted from around the globe by youth ages 13-18.  This exhibit features the U.S. and international winners and finalists for 2016.  Each Grand Prize winner received $1,000 from Sister Cities International.

The “Peace through People” exhibit will be on display at the Valencia Library until Wednesday, March 29, 2017. The Valencia Library is located at 23743 Valencia Boulevard.
