(Washington, DC) - Representative Steve Knight (R-CA) participated in a House Armed Services Committee Congressional Delegation to Israel to meet with Israeli officials and commemorate the historic opening of the United States Embassy in Jerusalem. The delegation was led by Representative Joe Wilson (R-SC), Chairman of the Subcommittee on Readiness.

Rep. Knight and the other members of the ten-person delegation reasserted the importance of the Israeli-American partnership in combating terrorism, promoting human rights, and defending democracy in the region. The delegation met with Israeli President Benjamin Netanyahu to discuss specific provisions of the FY19 National Defense Authorization Act that provide critical assistance to the Israeli Defense Force and counter increasing pressure from nearby aggressors. Additionally, the delegation met with Israeli military officials to receive briefings on new developments and security challenges faced by the key American ally.

"It was an honor to be a part of this delegation and show support for our Israeli friends," said Rep. Knight "Israel is our longest and closest ally in the region and still stands as the only modern democracy in the area. We share the same goals for national security, human rights, and economic relations. The NDAA, which we passed out of committee last week, includes key provisions to support early-warning and missile-defense programs like the Iron Dome, David's Sling, and Patriot systems to deter rogue entities from launching rocket attacks into Israel. The trip was also capped off with a wonderful ceremony to commemorate the opening of the new U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem, the historic and true capital of Israel. I want to thank Chairman Wilson for organizing this amazing opportunity to be a part of this historic moment. America will always stand with our allies and I will always support policies that strengthen our ties with those we share fundamental values with."

Representative Knight is a member of the House Armed Services Committee and serves on the Subcommittee on Tactical Air and Land Forces and Subcommittee on Seapower and Projection Forces. The other members of the delegation included Chairman Joe Wilson, Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart (R-FL), Rep. Dennis Ross (R-FL), Rep. Ron Desantis (R-FL), Rep. George Holding (R-NC), Rep. Tom Rise (R-SC), Rep. Judy Hice (R-GA), Rep. Lee Zeldin (R-NY), and Rep. Scott Taylor (R-VA).
