Sergeant Steven Owen Memorial Park Dedicated to His Family

Posted on: 07/17/2017 00:00

On Saturday, July 15th, family, friends and law enforcement family joined together to celebrate the renaming of a community park to our fallen Los Angeles County Sheriff, Sergeant Steve Owen.  The City of Lancaster revealed the new sign, which can be viewed by most commuters driving through the city.

On October 25, 2016, Lancaster City Council approved the renaming of the park to Sergeant Steve Owen Memorial Park to honor the memory and legacy of Sgt. Steve Owen, who many knew as, “Bullfrog”.  Sergeant Steve Owen died in the line of duty October 5, 2016 when responding to a burglary call.  Sgt. Owen is known for his many contributions to the community and the larger Antelope Valley.  He dedicated his time unconditionally to local sports programs, his church, colleagues, special events, and his family; his love for his family and community was paramount in his life.

Sergeant Steve Owen’s family were humbled and honored at this memorial renaming event.  Mrs. Owen also known as Mrs. Bullfrog said, “Steve was loved by many in the community, everyone he worked with and even people he arrested.”

Sergeant Steve Owen’s Memorial Park will remain for future generations.  Mrs. Owen further stated, “We will be able to enjoy it with our family and the community he loved.  I will tell my grandchildren this is Grandpas Park.”

The members of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department would like to thank the City of Lancaster for honoring and dedicating a place where children and families can get together and create memories, as Sergeant Owen did with his family.
