I just wanted to give you an update on our Station's SAT Team. The Special Assignment Team (SAT) at Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station continues weekly patrol of areas within the City in an effort to curb criminal and gang activity in target specific areas. The specialized team led by Sergeant Michael Konecny has been tasked with keeping a proactive law enforcement presence in areas that residents have expressed concern about activity.

Last week, they conducted patrol in Newhall, Canyon Country and Valencia. The areas that they patrol can change each week depending on the needs of the community and the Station. They utilize patrol cars or bicycles on their patrols, making an effort to contact any suspicious individuals that are seen on the streets, passes, or loitering in business areas.

Last Friday night, they made contact with a group of individuals seen loitering near a Newhall gas station. SAT Team deputies arrested one of the female adults in the group, Dominique Howard, age 26, for outstanding warrants.

The deputies then made their way over to Canyon Country, conducting traffic stops and pedestrian stops of suspicious individuals. One individual they made contact with, Erica Hertzberg, age 23, was arrested for possession of methamphetamine.

On Saturday, directed patrol continued in a Valencia neighborhood. While in the neighborhood, they located suspect Gregory Szpak, age 31, who had warrants in the system for possession of controlled substances. While at the location, deputies made contact with suspect’s brother and determined that the he was in possession of heroin. The two brothers were arrested, transported, and booked at Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station.
