City officials will discuss how Santa Clarita is trying to streamline the permitting process for businesses and important steps for business owners seeking permits, during the Valley Industry Association’s next keynote luncheon, Tuesday, April 15, at 11:30 a.m. at the Valencia Country Club.
“Navigating the Permit Process for Tenant Improvements” will be presented by Santa Clarita Building Official Damon Letz, Associate Engineer John Caprarelli and Project Development Coordinator Julia Regan. From the reasons why it’s important to hire qualified designers, to knowing how the city’s Building and Safety department can provide input, the presentation is aimed at giving business owners a clearer grasp on the permitting process.
VIA’s Regulatory Reform Committee has partnered with the city to identify ways that the often-involved permitting process for local businesses can be streamlined. At April’s luncheon, city officials will discuss some of the city’s plans.
“Obtaining permits can be a time-consuming, intensive process for businesses,” VIA President and CEO Kathy Norris said. “VIA is committed to working with the city to ensure the process of acquiring the proper permits doesn’t delay business owners from contributing to the local economy.”
Among the steps the city is taking are an improved over-the-counter approval process for retail, office and light industrial projects, providing estimated dates of review, up-to-date information regarding permit fees and development additional online resources for business owners.
Reservations are required for the luncheon. Members who reserve by Thursday, April 3 pay $40, or $45 between April 4-10. After April 10, the cost is $50. The cost for non-members is $65. “No shows” or cancellations made less than 24 hours in advance will be billed. There is a $10 surcharge for attendees without a reservation. The Valencia Country Club is located at 27330 N. Tourney Road. The luncheon is sponsored by the City of Santa Clarita, Poole and Shaffery, L/B/W Insurance and Financial Services, Inc., Mellady Direct Marketing, SCVTV, KHTS AM-1220 and The Signal.
