(dailynews.com) The Rye fire in the Santa Clarita area was 96 percent contained Monday night, but full containment wasn’t expected until Friday, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection said in an update posted at 6 p.m.

The fire hadn’t expanded overnight. It has burned 6,049 acres, destroyed six structures and damaged three others. One person, a firefighter, was injured during the fire. Evacuation orders were lifted Thursday.

Los Angeles County Fire Department spokesman Kenichi Haskett said Sunday night that firefighters continued to monitor hot spots, but that crews were being reduced as the threat from the Rye fire waned.

The Rye fire started Dec. 5 near Rye Canyon Loop and spread quickly in powerful winds.
