Ten years ago I was working at the local newspaper covering education. The community was still reeling over the death of Deputy Jake Kuredjian who was killed during a shoot out while assisting the ATF who were serving a warrant in Stevenson Ranch. My husband and teenage son joined a group of guys for a weeklong hunting trip in Alaska and I was home with my youngest son. As usual, I had the television on while getting ready for work Tuesday morning when the second plane hit the World Trade Center in New York. (more…)

On Nov. 3 residents of the West Side will be asked if they want be part of city of Santa Clarita, form their own city or remain the same, an unincorporated area of Los Angeles County. This vote, which is not binding, will be included in the ballot for school and water district board members. Whatever the outcome of this vote, the majority could set into motion further studies and a lot of campaigning. (more…)
