(From the Signal) A second dead bird found in Stevenson Ranch has tested positive for the West Nile virus this year. The bird is the fourth in Los Angeles County to be found this year. The bird, along with another bird in La Mirada, was collected by Los Angeles County Public Health veterinarians. (more…)

Goodwill Store

Hundreds lined up of the official grand opening of the 63rd Goodwill Store in the Santa Clarita Valley today, Friday, June 25, 2010. The newest addition to the Goodwill retail organization is located at the corner of Pico Canyon Road and The Old Road in Stevenson Ranch. Shoppers were treated to raffle give aways and a number of free items “hidden” around the store. (more…)

SheriffStar.jpgThe Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff Station responded to a call regarding a chemical reaction bomb (plastic bottle bomb) which exploded in Stevenson Ranch on Monday night.  Deputies responded to Hood Way after a call for service reported the noise of a small explosion. Upon arrival at the location Sheriff Deputies located the remnants of a 2 liter soda bottle at the side of the residence.  There were no injuries or damage reported; no other information was available.

After taking last year off, the Stevenson Ranch Community Association and the Los Angeles County Department of Parks & Recreation will be staging a spectacular Fireworks show on Sunday, July 4, 2010 from 7:30 PM to 10:00 PM at the Dr. Richard Rioux Memorial Park in Stevenson Ranch. Parking is limited and the community is encouraged to walk to the park.

(From KTHS) A Garden Grove woman was involved in a head-on collision with a Santa Clarita Sheriff’s patrol deputy responding to an assistance call this morning in Stevenson Ranch. Shortly before 5 a.m., Jessie Frutos, 17, was driving a 2005 Mercedes eastbound on Pico Canyon Road and preparing to make a left turn onto Stevenson Ranch Parkway. Deputy Blake Carpenter, 24, was responding to an assistance call with two additional patrol units traveling westbound on Pico Canyon, approaching the intersection of Stevenson Ranch Parkway at approximately 50-55 MPH. SuterandMother(From the Signal) A church service for Marine Pfc. Jake Suter will be held on Saturday, June 5 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. It is open to the public. A community memorial service will follow at Jake Kuredjian Park from 12:30 p.m. to 12:50 p.m. It will include a 21-gun salute, a performance of the national anthem and taps. Scores of well wishers descended on a tiny, quiet cul-de-sac in Stevenson Ranch on Wednesday night to show how much they care about U.S. Marine Corps Pfc. Jake William Suter, who died on Saturday morning in local Afghanistan time, after only five days in the war-torn country. (more…)

JakeSuterIn an exclusive to The Beacon, Congressman Buck McKeon will be attending the prayer vigil for fallen Stevenson Ranch Marine, Private 1st Class Jake Suter. The Congressman, who was home for the Memorial Day Holiday, will attend the planned vigil at 7:00 PM Wednesday evening on Bates Place where Jake lived. The entire community is encouraged to attend to remember and pray for Private Suter and to show support for his family and friends.

Jake SuterLess than two months after Stevenson Ranch resident Sgt. Ian Gelig was killed in action in Afghanistan, the community has lost another brave son. Marine Private 1st Class Jake W. Suter, a graduate of West Ranch High School and resident of Stevenson Ranch was killed in action on Friday, May 28, 2010 in Afghanistan. He had only arrived for duty in that country on Wednesday, May 26. His remains were flown back today, Memorial Day, to Dover Air Force Base in Maryland. The remembrance/vigil is currently being planned for this week. Please check back as more information becomes available.

VehicleBurglarySuspectThe man is believed to be responsible for a number of vehicle burglaries in the Stevenson Ranch area.  On Saturday, April 24, 2010, the suspect was captured on video surveillance checking door handles on vehicles parked in driveways in the 24900 block of Chicory Court in Stevenson Ranch. The suspect wore a glove on one hand. A second suspect was seen waiting in the passenger seat of a black Mercedes Benz S-series, which was parked nearby. (more…)

Greater Los Angeles County Vector Control District officials picked up a cedar waxwing carcass near Irving Road in Stevenson Ranch after a resident there called the district’s hot line, 1-888-WNV-BIRD. In a heartwarming and patriotic showing, Stevenson Ranch Parkway was lined with flag waiving residents paying tribute to Sgt. Ian Gelig who was killed in action by an improvised explosive device (IED) on March 1, 2010 while serving in Afghanistan. (more…)

chppatch(From KHTS) A 47 year-old man was killed Sunday afternoon in an accident involving his 2006 Lamborghini. According to the California Highway Patrol, Payman Engheta of Stevenson Ranch was driving the sports car on Bouquet Canyon Road near the Big Oaks Lodge at about 40 miles per hour when he lost control coming out of a curve.
