Life Boy Scout Gerardo Ruiz, age 17, needed a project to finish his scouting and to earn “Eagle” status, the highest rank in the scouting program. After much research, he decided that he wanted to build a bridge over one of the creeks at Placerita Nature Center. Placerita had 3 bridges previously built by scouts and volunteers, but there was one more creek crossing that was dangerous during rains due to the fact that Placerita Canyon Road drains into (more…)

A vision for a state park at the Santa Susana Field Laboratory does not end at the site’s borders but extends to surrounding land in the hills south of Simi Valley. “The property that Boeing owns is one piece of a much larger park,” said Kevin O’Neill, chief of staff for Assemblyman Cameron Smyth, R-Santa Clarita. “It has the potential to be upwards of 30,000 acres.” (more…)
