The City of Santa Clarita is offering two fall child development classes designed to help prepare community kids for preschool and kindergarten. The classes, My Buddy and Me and Terrific Tots, begin the week of September 13 and lasts for 14 weeks. (more…)

The West Ranch Town Council will hold their regular monthly meeting tonight, Wednesday, August 4, 2010 at the Tournament Player Club in West Ranch located at 26550 Heritage View Lane in the Westridge neighborhood at 6:30 PM. The meeting will include a presentation on the proposed T-Mobile Cell Tower and from Six Flags Magic Mountain plus the regular updates from the Sheriff’s Department, the California Highway Patrol, Parks and Recreation, various County Departments and local HOA’s. “Not content to let Santa Clarita Transit have all the fun, Supervisor Antonovich is also sponsoring a summer beach bus”, was the comment made by Jeff Wilson over at SCVtalk.com in regards to a post here at The Beacon. It was worth saying that the County/Antonovich has sponsored a beach bus for residents of Castaic and the West Ranch communities for years. (more…)

(From the wsj.com) A failed car bomb smoked, popped and shut down Times Square, causing panic, evacuations and confusion Saturday on one of the tourist spot’s busiest nights. Most of the streets in the area were reopened Sunday morning, though a heavy police presence remained in the area. (more…)

With the news of Disney’s plans to build studios at Golden Oak Ranch virtually transforming Santa Clarita into the next Hollywood, Southern California FIRE & EMS (www.socalfireems.com) announced a strategic partnership with Symon’s Event Safety (www.symonseventsafety.com) that will greatly benefit the motion picture industry in the area. A Southern California FIRE & EMS spokesman stated that the partnership will make available services to the Santa Clarita motion picture industry that would otherwise not be available and is in high demand. The Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station will be conducting a D.U.I. checkpoint beginning on Friday, December 18, 2009, at 6:00 p.m. and concluding at 2:00 a.m. on Saturday morning, December 19, 2009. The goal of the checkpoint is to educate the community on the hazards of drunk driving while enforcing the D.U.I. laws of the State of California. (more…)

(From the San Francisco Chronicle) Californians usually pay more for gasoline than do other Americans. But not this much more. A gallon of regular now costs, on average, $3.14 in the Golden State. The national average is $2.54, according to the AAA auto club. That 60-cent difference is twice the norm. (more…)
