The City of Santa Clarita will host the 16th annual River Rally event on Saturday, September 11, 2010 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Soledad Shopping Center, located at 18386 Soledad Canyon Road.  Participants will be provided with gloves, collection bags, and refreshments. Deputies responded to a burglary call at the Christ Lutheran Church. While they were responding to the call for service, they received an update that a witness was detaining a possible suspect. The deputies arrived to find the witness detaining the suspect on the ground. (more…)

The City of Santa Clarita is sponsoring its third annual Food Drive, benefitting the SCV Food Pantry. During the entire month of September, Santa Clarita residents are invited to drop off non-perishable food items to designated locations across the City to be donated directly to the SCV Food Pantry. The recently released 2009 Kosmont Cost of Doing Business Survey ranked the City of Santa Clarita among the “Ten Least Expensive Cities in Los Angeles County” in 2009 based on analysis of the overall cost of doing business within the community.  Joining Santa Clarita in the top 10 list (in alphabetical order) include the cities of: Agoura Hills, Bell Gardens, Cerritos, Diamond Bar, Glendora, Lancaster, Signal Hill, Walnut, and Westlake Village.  The City of Santa Clarita continues to offer businesses a lower cost option to doing business than other California cities such as Palmdale, Glendale, Pasadena, Beverly Hills, and Santa Monica in this annual report covering 410 cities across the Country. For the last several months I have sat back and watched the proposed City of Santa Clarita takeover of the local County Libraries unfold. The outcome was predictable from the first whiff that the City was eyeing the libraries and even before then with the controversy over the design of the new library slated for Newhall. This was a done deal from the moment it was couched. (more…)

The Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station is investigating a reported incident of kidnapping and child annoyance in Central Park located at 27150 Bouquet Canyon Road in the Saugus area of the City of Santa Clarita. A Saugus resident, female 14, reported she was walking to meet some friends in Central Park about 8:45 p.m. on Saturday evening.  She was near a group of trees when suddenly a man grabbed her arm and pulled her to one of the trees. Deputies Dubin and Jones responded to reports of an indecent exposure occurring at Valencia Central Valley Park located at 23600 Block of Carrizo Drive inValencia.  At the park several witnesses pointed out a man who was lying on the grass with his pants down and his body exposed. The witnesses reported that the man had previously been rubbing himself in an indecent manner.  (more…)

 The City of Santa Clarita Youth Resource Directory has been updated and is available online. The directory lists over 200 resources for teens and families in crisis including information about where to get help with addiction recovery, counseling, employment, legal services, family education, youth intervention and prevention programs, and more.  The directory can be accessed by visiting the City’s website at santa-clarita.com/youthresourcesdirectory. Did you expect any other outcome? Of course the City Council voted to take over the County Libraries regardless of any of the questions brought up by City residents. This was a done deal going into the council meeting because most of the City Council members do exactly what the City managers tell them to do! Let’s see if the City matches the County service and at what expense. (From KHTS) After nearly four hours of presentations and public comments, the City Council of Santa Clarita voted 4-1 on Tuesday to withdraw from the County of Los Angeles Public Library system and establish an independent municipal library, placing both library ownership and managerial decisions within the City’s control.  The City of Santa Clarita launched its updated trail map, now available on the City’s website at santa-clarita.com/trails.  Residents can view the map, which allows users to zoom and scroll throughout the City’s extensive trail system, and print desired trail views. (more…)

The Mint Canyon Moose Board of Directors has agreed to host the Canyon Country Advisory Committee (CCAC) meetings at the Mint Canyon Moose Family Center Banquet Room. Starting next month with the September 15th meeting the CCAC will move to its new meeting location at the Mint Canyon Moose Family Center 2173 located at 18000 Sierra Highway in Canyon Country.
