CitySeal.jpgHaving lived in the Santa Clarita Valley for over 40 years, I have been privy to a lot of changes.  When I first moved in, the Hwy 14 freeway ended at the Newhall pass and the only way to get directly to the east side of our valley was Sierra Highway sporting only one lane in each direction.  Canyon Country was called Saugus, the river was a Sand Wash and no one ever discussed the need to visit a Board of Supervisors meeting. sheriffcarDetectives working the area of Camp Plenty and Fairweather, Canyon Country, conducted a traffic stop on a speeding vehicle on Friday, July 23, 2010.  The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle said his driver’s license was suspended.  During his arrest for driving on a suspended license, detectives found four baggies of Methamphetamine and other evidence of drug sales in the car. sheriffcarThe Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff Station’s Traffic Office is investigating a fatal traffic collision that occurred on westbound Soledad Canyon Road near Gailxy Avenue in Canyon Country. A deputy working in the area came upon a vehicle that had apparently struck the curb and overturned. After a quick assessment of the collision scene, the deputy determined that the driver had struck a pedestrian who had been on the sidewalk. The pedestrian, male age 15 of Canyon Country, was fatally injured as a result of the collision. The driver of the vehicle, male 47 of Canyon Country, was treated for minor injuries. (more…)

CrimeScene.jpg(From KHTS) Sheriff’s homicide detectives are wrapping up at the scene of an officer-involved shooting in the Parklane Mobile Home Park on Soledad Canyon Road near Rainbow Glen. According to sheriff’s officials, deputies were called to the scene of a domestic dispute at that location around 3 a.m. Neighbors had reported hearing a couple arguing loudly. (more…)

SilverDollarA call from an alert Canyon Country resident immediately brought deputies to the 18200 block of Sandy Drive in Canyon Country, early this morning. The resident called to report they were watching as at least two suspects broke into a nearby parked car. (more…)

CitySeal.jpg(From the Signal) A Santa Clarita proposal to start charging a use fee for city facilities where three local community groups meet has angered the leader of the Canyon Country Advisory Committee. “If this is going to be a business, why have taxpayer money pay for it?” committee Chairman Al Ferdman said of the Santa Clarita Activities Center, where the committee has met for free. “Why not give it to the private sector?” (more…)

SuspectDetectives from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station are continuing their investigation into an incident of lewd acts with a child and false imprisonment that occurred in the 27200 block of Hidaway Avenue, Canyon Country. The suspect in the case, Fancisco Ceron, MH/35, is behind bars and the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office – Los Angeles Superior Court – San Fernando has filed one felony count of lewd acts with a child and one felony count of false imprisonment against him. Detectives from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station’s Burglary and Fraud team put an end to a burglary crime spree with the service of two search warrants this morning in Canyon Country. The detectives had been investigating several separate incidents of residential burglary that were reported in and around the area of Isabella Parkway. The criminal activity began in March when one residential burglary was reported, and the incidents increased on a monthly basis with three in April, three in May and seven reported to deputies this month. watchsign.jpgA simple phone call to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station from a concerned resident Saturday morning led to the arrest of three individuals, resulted in the recovery of drugs and stolen property, and brought closure to two recent car theft victims. Deputies responded to the 28800 block of Bougainvillea Way, Canyon Country, to a resident’s report of suspicious persons in a vehicle who were possibly doing drugs. FingerprintA burglary which occurred in December 2009 in the 27300 block of Red Bud Place in the Unincorporated Los Angeles County area of Canyon Country was solved recently by fingerprint identification.  Latent fingerprints located in the burglarized home were submitted to the crime lab. Detectives working the case began to notice a pattern of burglaries in the area. Most of the victim homes did not yield any fingerprint evidence, but all of the homes were entered by a suspect sliding a window open and climbing into the residence. (more…)

Arrested.jpgAfter a month long investigation, detectives from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station’s Burglary and Fraud team were busy Wednesday morning serving a search warrant at a residence in the 19000 block of Bagby Drive, Canyon Country area of the City of Santa Clarita. The Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s team was joined by Los Angeles County Sheriff Department’s Headquarters Narcotics Bureau, assigned to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station area.  (more…)

Arrested.jpgTwo Canyon Country men are behind bars today, suspected in the attempted armed robbery of a man near the bicycle path in the 18300 block of Soledad Canyon Road, Canyon Country. The victim, a Canyon Country man, called the station and reported that he was approached by three men who asked him if he had any money. One of the men, later identified as Abel Rodriguez, MH/23, reportedly pulled a revolver from his pocket, pointed it at the victim and demanded money. The suspect apparently handed the gun to a second suspect, Eddie Nolasco-Gonzalez, MH/26, who reportedly fired at least one shot into the air. The victim did not have any money and the the suspects left the area, ultimately crossing the Santa Clara Riverbed. (more…)

CrimeScene.jpgDetectives from the Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Station’s Robbery and Assault team are investigating two unrelated incidents of armed robbery that occurred just minutes apart on Wednesday night, March 23, 2010. The first reported incident occurred at 10:53 p.m. at the Jack in the Box located at 28090 North Hasley Canyon Road, Unincorporated Los Angeles County Castaic. (more…)

A Canyon Country man is behind bars today after a Santa Clarita Deputy conducted a proactive traffic stop near Soledad Canyon Road and Crossglade Avenue last night. After a preliminary investigation, the deputy was searching the man and reportedly found drug paraphernalia. As the deputy attempted to control the suspect, the man broke from his grasp, struck him with his elbow and began running through the Taco Bell parking lot. (more…)
