Due to fire activity in the Antelope Valley, air quality in parts of Los Angeles County may be affected. Health officials urge all residents living and working in areas of visible smoke or where there is an odor of smoke to avoid unnecessary outdoor activity. “Everyone should avoid any outdoor or indoor exertion or exercise in smoke-impacted areas,” said Jonathan E. The City of Santa Clarita, in partnership with the South Coast Air Quality Management District, will host a Lawn Mower Exchange on Saturday, July 17 at the College of the Canyons. Open to all Santa Clarita residents, this event allows those who register to trade in their old, but still operable gas lawn mower and purchase a cordless, rechargeable, electric lawn mower at a greatly reduced price. Supervisor Michael D. Due to several fires burning in Southern California, air quality continues to be adversely affected in several parts of Los Angeles County. According to the South Coast Air Quality Management District (AQMD), smoke from the Station Fire near La Cañada has caused poor air quality in the San Gabriel Mountains and the West San Gabriel Valley. Areas of direct smoke impact include Altadena, La Cañada, Flintridge, La Crescenta, Tujunga, and Sunland. (more…)

The regional air quality agency has issued a smoke advisory, warning all residents who live near the massive Southern California wildfire to remain indoors and avoid strenuous activity. Officials say air quality is in the foothill communities around La Canada Flintridge is unhealthy, bordering on hazardous reports the Associated Press. Sam Atwood with the Air Quality Management District says people with heart or lung conditions, including asthma, should consider leaving the area. Smoke from the fire can be seen for miles around Los Angeles County.
