Just to be fair to the Catholic community, I don't know of anyone in the church hierarchy except Cardinal Roger Mahoney who has said that illegal immigration -- or illegal driving or illegal anything else -- is acceptable. Mahoney is very different from the mainstream of Catholic thinking here and in other places, too, including his history of protecting sexually abusive priests as far as he can.

Does anyone even care what Tim Myers has to say, LOL? He likes to think he runs with the movers and shakers, but he has no idea what is going on because he isn't involved in any part of SCV's mover and shaker "community." Occasionally, a lobbyist with an agenda will talk to Tim and Tim writes whatever it is he has been spoon fed. That's the extent of Tim's "knowledge" of local issues.

It will always be difficult to discuss the ILLEGAL immigrant issue because people are afraid of being called racists by dolts like Tim Myers. Tim always pulls out his holier-than-thou "I have mixed-race grandchildren" mantra as if that has anything to do with the ILLEGAL immigration issue. And of course the Catholic Church supports ILLEGAL immigrants, especially from Mexico, since the vast majority of them are Catholic! With all the pedophile priests responsible for dwindling numbers in the Catholic Church, the Church needs to replace their lost congregations any way they can, even if it means disobeying the laws of this country. And will the riches of the tax-exempt Catholic Churches be paying for all these people from other countries? Of course not, the Catholic Church wants them all here to fill the Church coffers, but it is you and I that will be paying for the open borders as the middle class is taxed right out of existence. Welcome to Socialist America!

I can understand that after hearing nothing more than repeated "you are a racist" remarks to serious concerns about illegal immigration, you just want to blow off an in-your-face remark. As former baseball great Reggie Jackson described himself as "the straw that stirs the drink," the lesson of this episode is that Bob Kellar's simple little declarative statement has become the straw that has stirred this big drink.

DAVE'S EDITORIALS ARE RIGHT ON TARGET. There are those like Tim Myers who would like to shut down debate on this issue, which is so critical to the future of this country, by labeling those who understand the difference between LEGAL and ILLEGAL as bigots and racists.

Dave, both of your editiorials are spot on. Of course trying to have a reasoned discourse on illegal immigration is like trying to nail jello to the wall, especially when you have people like Tim Meyers responding. How he got from an editorial on illegal immigration to you being anti-Catholic and when that didn't work to being an anti-Semite is beyond me. Many Catholics (including this one) strongly disagree with Cardinal Mahoney's position on illegal immigration. I guess that makes me an anti-Catholic Catholic. Whatever. Just keep being an island of sanity in a sea of insanity. And as far as Tim Meyers goes, didn't most villages in Europe used to have someone like him?
