A detective with the Lancaster Sheriff’s Station asked for the public’s help Tuesday in identifying the suspect or suspects involved in a scam involving a fake gold bar. One suspect approached a woman in a Lancaster mall on Jan. 29, asking for directions. A second suspect then approached and joined in the conversation, Detective Miguel Torres said.

During the conversation, the original suspect showed what he said was a solid gold bar that he was going to sell at a jewelry store reports the Daily News.

The victim and the second person watch the person go into a store, and emerge with a “wad of cash,” supposedly $15,000.

The suspect then said he has two more gold bars and would sell them to the store, but the proprietor is out of money. He could return later in the afternoon when the jewelry store owner has more money, Torres said.

At this point, the other man offered to buy one for $12,000. The woman said she could get hold of $9,000. The suspect says he will take it.
