City Council Extends Olive Branch
Posted by admin under West Ranch Town Council , City of Santa Clarita , Castaic/Val Verde Town CouncilAt the Santa Clarita City Council meeting on Tuesday night February 27th the City Council took the high road and extended an olive branch to the local Town Councils.
On the agenda was the Annexation Initiation Policy which was a propose change in the way the City of Santa Clarita would pursue area annexations. It was widely viewed that the City Council would pass this amended policy; although earlier in the day at a meeting with Castaic and West Ranch Town Council members a plea was made that this item be tabled.
Prior to the vote, West Ranch Town Council Vice President Ron Mechsner and Castaic Town Council member Steve Teeman both publicly reiterated the Town Councils view that the annexation policy change be tabled. By postponing this action the City would show a willingness to recognize and to work with the local Town Councils on the question of self-determination.
Pam Ingram, President of the Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce as well as a resident of Sunset Point and another resident from the Hasley Canyon community urged the City Council to pass the proposed policy change.
The City Council appears to have had a change of heart and vote 5-0 to table the Annexation Initiation Policy for four month until the June 24, 2007 City Council meeting.
This represents a clear shift by the City in how they wish to work with the Town Councils representing the un-incorporated communities on the west side of the Santa Clarita Valley. This action will no doubt pay dividends in the future to the entire valley.
