UPDATE: An electrical transformer blows out in Saugus; heavy traffic

POWER HAS BEEN RESTORED FULLY TO THE EFFECTED AREAS. An electrical transformer has blown out in the 27300 block of Catala Avenue in Saugus. The damaged transformer caused a small fire that was immediately extinguished by the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The blown transformer has caused traffic signal outages at the following intersections:
- Bouquet Canyon Road at Central Park
- Bouquet Canyon Road at Alamogordo Road
- Vista Delgado Drive and Decoro Drive
Southern California Edison is working to resolve the problem and repair the transformer and downed power lines. Complete repair is expected to take several hours.
With the traffic control signal outages, traffic may be heavier than normal and motorists may experience lengthy delays or disruption in their normal routes of travel. The Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station asks that motorists SLOW DOWN in the area and use alternate routes of travel. Avoid the area if possible.
The city of Santa Clarita has deployed temporary stop signs at the affected intersections.
NO ONE HAS BEEN INJURED.
The power is out in the immediate area which includes Highlands Elementary School – 27332 Catala Avenue Santa Clarita. School officials will be moving the children to Bouquet Canyon Elementary School where they will be supervised and can be picked up by parents. Bouquet Canyon Elementary School – 28110 N. Welston Drive, Saugus. School officials are in the process of notifying parents and no children are in any danger.
