  • Challenger Seeks to Unseat the Man Who Unseated His Father  -   About 30 years ago, Representative Charles B. Rangel invited a 19-year-old summer intern named Adam Clayton Powell IV into his office at the United States Capitol for an emotional conversation: He had run a bruising primary campaign in 1970 to unseat Mr. Powell’s father, he acknowledged, ending the career of a celebrated Harlem politician. IN THE SENATE

  • The Senate is not in session.
  • W. Virginia race is set; Vitter cruises in Louisiana  -  West Virginia Gov. Joe Manchin won the Democratic nomination Saturday and will face GOP primary winner John Raese in a special election to fill the open Senate seat held for 51 years by Robert C. Byrd. (Washington Post)

FEDERAL GRANT OF THE DAY

  • Community Food Projects Competitive Grants Program- Community Food Projects should be designed to (1): (A) meet the food needs of low-income people; (B) increase the self-reliance of communities in providing for their own food needs; and (C) promote comprehensive responses to local food, farm, and nutrition issues; and/or (2) meet specific state, local, or neighborhood food and agriculture needs for (A) infrastructure improvement and development; (B) planning for long-term solutions; or (C) the creation of innovative marketing activities that mutually benefit agricultural producers and low-income consumers.  For a list of eligible applicants or more information, see USDA.
