Lawn Mower with Clipping PathThe City of Santa Clarita, in partnership with the South Coast Air Quality Management District, will host a Lawn Mower Exchange on Saturday, July 17 at the College of the Canyons. Open to all Santa Clarita residents, this event allows those who register to trade in their old, but still operable gas lawn mower and purchase a cordless, rechargeable, electric lawn mower at a greatly reduced price.

Pre-registration is required to participate in the lawnmower exchange. Upon registration participants will be allowed to select the time that they would like to attend.  They will be given a registration number and a half-hour time slot during which to arrive.  This reduces traffic congestion, and allows for a quick orderly flow through the exchange process.

“Using a typical gas mower for one year can pollute as much as a car driven for 22,000 miles.  All the gas mowers that are turned in for this program will be scrapped and the metal recycled,” said Travis Lange, the City’s Environmental Services Manager.

Registered participants will have their choice of four different electric lawn mowers ranging in price from $100 to $165 to purchase in exchange for their gas mower. The retail value on the electric mowers is $350 to $500.

The Lawn Mower Exchange will take place at College of the Canyons, located at 26455 Rockwell Canyon Road. To pre-register, visit aqmd.gov or call 888-425-6247.
