(From the Signal) Santa Clarita city officials have asked a state commission for guidance on whether rules were broken by both sides in the race for Santa Clarita City Council. On one side of the issue, two incumbent council members say a group that sent out mailers favoring challenger David Gauny didn’t file the necessary paperwork with the city.

On the other side of the issue, Gauny and the other leading challenger, TimBen Boydston, say the Beverly Hills firm behind the Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital expansion is bankrolling incumbents and failing to fully report its expenditures on their behalf.

The group that spent about $4,600 on a Gauny mailer is the California Republican Assembly Independent Expenditure Committee, and it has not filed campaign disclosures with the city of Santa Clarita, City Clerk Sarah Gordon confirmed Friday.
