At the Santa Clarita City Council meeting, held on Tuesday night, the Council had on the agenda whether or not to support the six immigration* bills being co-sponsored by Congressman Buck McKeon. This is significant because the Santa Clarita City Council has failed to address the illegal immigration issue locally for at least the last decade. You can thank David Gauny for his leadership on this topic and for influencing the decision to add it to the City Council agenda last night.

When the agenda item came up, Councilman Bob Kellar made the motion to support all six of the bills and that was seconded by Frank Ferry. At that point the Council members began a discussion of the motion at hand.

During the discussion Councilwoman Ender choked back tears and with her voice cracking argued against H.R.1868 which Clarifies the interpretation of the 14th Amendment to deny citizenship to children born in the U.S. to illegal immigrants and H.RES.1026 which asks that E-verify be made mandatory for all businesses, asks that the Border Fence be completed, asks that Congress not legalize or grant amnesty to illegal immigrants. She apparently thinks its okay that thousands of pregnant illegal immigrants are crossing the border just give birth in the United States so they can get a free ride on welfare services paid for with our tax dollars.

Ferry quickly sympathized with Ender and asked that the motion be split to accommodate her wishes. Kellar refused and said the motion stands and asked Frank if he wanted to rescind his second. Ferry tried unsuccessfully to dance around it or persuade Kellar to acquiesce. Kellar stood his ground and refused! That forced Ferry to take back his second and enter a new motion that allowed for the Council to vote on 4 bills and then vote on the remaining 2 which Ender objected to.

The first vote was unanimous with all 5 council members voting to support H.R.4548 which Prohibits In-state tuition for illegal aliens among other actions; H.R.997 which would makes English the official language of the U.S.; H.R.2083 which would require 350 miles of Border Fence be erected; and H.R.3571 which would Defund ACORN for encouraging illegal immigrants to vote.

The Council then voted on the 2 remaining bills H.R.1868 which clarifies the interpretation of the 14th Amendment to deny citizenship to children born in the U.S. to illegal immigrants and H.RES.1026 which asks that E-verify be made mandatory for all businesses, asks that the Border Fence be completed, asks that Congress not legalize or grant amnesty to illegal immigrants. Kellar, Weste, Ferry and McLean voted for supporting these two bills and the sole dissenter Laurie Ender voted against it brandishing herself a supporter of illegal immigrants who are criminls for breaking the law.

Several weeks back David Gauny not only defended Councilman Bob Kellar but stood by him during the ridiculous brouhaha which erupted involving illegal immigration comments that had been taken out of context. Gauny absolutely displayed the leadership in bringing this issue forward by speaking before the Santa Clarita City Council and demanding that the seated council members take a stand on illegal immigration.

It was David Gauny who said at the SCV California Republican Assembly endorsement meeting two weeks ago that if elected his first order of business would be to put the illegal immigration issue on the City Council agenda. It was his action, his words and his leadership that forced a reluctant and flaccid City Council to address this issue now. They had no choice but to comply!

Now just imagine what he would do if he is elected to a seat on the Santa Clarita City Council!
