The City of Santa Clarita will officially open a new nine-hole Disc Golf Course for play at Central Park on Friday, March 12, 2010. The additional holes, located on the southern edge of the park, complements the original nine hole layout on the eastern edge of the park, and will offer a more challenging alternative for advanced play.
“The new Disc Golf Course combines the challenges of greater distance, diverse terrain and enhanced obstacles,” said Rick Gould, Director of Parks, Recreation and Community Services for the City. “Also, the signature hole on the course is an unheard of 668-foot Par 5 with a forced right-to-left tee shot down a long, narrow corridor of trees and slopes.”
The new Disc Golf Course was created in part through the City’s 2009 Youth in Government program, which allowed a youth intern the opportunity to research, design and develop the layout for the new disc golf course.
“The City of Santa Clarita opened its first Disc Golf Course at Central Park in August, 2007, which was met with rave reviews and requests for additional, advanced playing options,” said Councilmember Laurie Ender. “The new course offers more challenging play for those experienced in the sport, with the continued option to utilize the original course for beginner or leisurely games.”
Central Park is located at 27150 Bouquet Canyon Road near the intersection of Bouquet Canyon Road and Alamogordo Avenue.
