YourVoteCounts.jpgThe Calgove Corridor association, which was formed to represent the neighborhoods around the proposed development of the Smiser Ranch Property, has sent out a letter to their members and friend encouraging them to learn more about the candidates running for City Council. As they so wisely point out the current City Council has told them “not to worry” about the development right now.

As a way of not being screwed over at a future date the Calgove Corridor association is encouraging residents to learn more about David Gauny and TimBen Boydston at their respective websites. The letter also points out; “As concerned citizens, we all must learn as much as we can so that our votes elect people with our best interest in mind.” Words to live by!

Here is the entire text of the letter:

Neighbors,

Things have been quiet concerning the Smiser Ranch Property for several months.  Due to the economy, new projects have been stalled.  However, the key word is ‘stalled’.  There is much happening behind the scenes and we must stay alert in order to be part of the solution for the building of that property.

The One Valley, One Vision master plan which the city and county have been working on for several years is about to become a reality.  This plan has some good points and some not so good points in it for the future of Santa Clarita Valley.  Part of the plan includes re-zoning of the Smiser Ranch Property.  We have gotten some concessions from the city planning folks as to density and height restrictions in our various talks with them.  However, none of this is guaranteed to us.

On April 13, 2010, we will have a City Council election.  The current council has repeatedly told us not to worry because there is no project before them at the present time for the Smiser Property.  When the project is proposed, it will be too late for us to do much about it.

To recap a little, when we were considering how to organize to address our concerns to the city about the proposed “Avenues” project, two men were instrumental in sharing their knowledge regarding how to effectively proceed in this endeavor.  Because of their sincere interest and suggestions, we were able to formulate a plan to explain our side of the issue to the Council and we were heard.

Now these two men, TimBen Boydston and David Gauny, are running for a City Council seat in April.  They are not as well known as the incumbents who are also running.  In order to keep you fully informed for this election we are providing links to their web sites for you to make your own decisions for whom to vote on April  13.

As an FYI, there are 3 council seats available, however it is not necessary to use all 3 of those votes and in fact doing so will almost guarantee that the incumbents will win unless the 3 votes are cast for non-incumbents.

As concerned citizens, we all must learn as much as we can so that our votes elect people with our best interest in mind.

Respectfully,
