Detectives from the City of Santa Clarita/Sheriff’s COBRA Unit have been actively investigating a stabbing incident and melee which occurred at a summer party on Sunday, July 19th, 2009.  On that night, patrol deputies were called to Henry Mayo Hospital after 2:00 a.m. to reports that the hospital staff were treating multiple people with stab wounds and other injuries.  Deputies learned that the victims had been at a party in the 23800 block of Claymore Avenue, Valencia, when several people apparently arrived that were not invited guests.  When they were asked to leave, a fight broke out involving several males.  The fight quickly escalated when one of the men reportedly brandished a knife and apparently stabbed as many as three people.  Other victims were punched, kicked, and apparently struck with beer bottles. 

Just before 7:00 a.m. this morning, Deputies from the City of Santa Clarita/Sheriff’s COBRA Unit served a search warrant in the 2000 block of Gradon Avenue, Monrovia, and arrested the primary suspect, Ryan Frost, MW/20, without incident.  During the search of the property, deputies also recovered the knife they believe was used in the assault.  They also recovered a shotgun.  The suspect was transported and booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station on felony charges of Assault with a Deadly Weapon.  He is being held in lieu of $200,000 bail pending future court proceedings.  Felony charges are also being pursued on a second male who is already in custody on an unrelated charge.  Two other suspects are still being sought and additional arrests and felony charges are expected in the coming days.  

“Our investigations do not end because the suspects flee to another area,” said Captain Anthony La Berge of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.  ”If you commit crime in our community we will track you down and put you behind bars no matter how long it takes or where we have to go,” concluded La Berge. 

The results of unsupervised or uncontrolled parties can be tragic, as alcohol and drug use has led to death and serious injuries in the past.  Even more often, complaints of loud and unreasonable noise are reported by neighbors. 

Several years ago the City of Santa Clarita and the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station launched an informational campaign to provide resources to parents and young adults, which will assist in planning, controlling and surviving a party or gathering amongst teenagers or young adults.  The ultimate goal; to help save lives.   

As part of this awareness campaign, the City and Sheriff’s Station jointly produced a “Parent Guide to Teenage Parties and Dances” brochure that assists parents or young adults in planning and organizing the event when it is hosted at their home. The information also provides tips when the party is held elsewhere, and what to consider with friends and guests. 

The investigation into this incident is ongoing and there is no further information available at this time.
