The City of Santa Clarita and the Blue Ribbon Task Force invite community teens and parents to attend the 2009 Teen Scene Unplugged: Helping Parents and Teens Survive the Teenage Years. The no-cost event, held Wednesday, September 23, 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency Valencia’s Grand Ballroom, is designed to show attendees how to make important decisions and healthy and responsible choices, provide coping skills and stimulate positive communication between parents and teens.
“The 2009 Teen Scene Unplugged will provide community parents and teens with important and relevant information on how to handle the stressful teenage years,” said Mayor Frank Ferry. “The event is designed to help attendees survive the teenage years with strong family relationships intact.”
Teen Scene Unplugged draws more than 500 community members annually, offering useful information and resources to help parents and teens productively deal with important issues. The 2009 event will feature guest speaker Susie Vanderlip, a nationally-known expert on teen and family issues. Vanderlip will give insight into teen pressures and share expertise on family issues such as teen stress, social and academic demands, drugs, alcohol, gangs, sexuality, and more.
Teen Scene Unplugged is free and open to the public and will feature a Resource Fair from 6-7 p.m. and Vanderlip’s presentation from 7-9 p.m.
The Hyatt Regency Valencia is located at 24500 Town Center Drive. For more information, contact Tess Simgen, Community Services Analyst, at (661) 250-3708 or visit www.santa-clarita.com/blueribbon.
