An off-duty Los Angele Police Department narcotics detective walked into the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station on Magic Mountain Parkway Monday evening spoke briefly with the deputies, pulled out a gun and took her own life.

The woman, who was not identified pending notification of next of kin, was identified by an LAPD official who asked not to be named. Her dark blue Honda Accord was parked next to a line of potted plants lining the walkway up to the station doors reports Carol Rock for KHTS Radio.

Calls into the Santa Clarita Station were rerouted to Lancaster Station for dispatch. Station personnel in the building at the time of the shooting were kept for several hours for questioning. The sheriff’s station will remain closed until the investigation is complete and the crime scene cleaned up.

Video of the crime scene showed a covered body laying right inside the double glass doors of the station lobby.

The incident began around 9:30 p.m. when the woman walked into the SCV Sheriff’s Station and talked with personnel at the front desk just before she shot herself. Lt. Duane Harris of Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau said that one of the station personnel was traumatized at seeing the woman kill herself and was taken away in an ambulance for treatment.
