This month marked an election for the West Ranch Town Council. Earlier this year the Town Council discussed monthly a process for holding an election for council members whose term of service was up. The seats that were up for election were held by Randal Winter, Chuck O’Connell, Don Fleming and Dave Bossert.

The deadline for applications was September 30th and the Council received four applications from the incumbents. There were some inquiries into running for a seat by a few individuals in the community but none filed an application for candidacy.

At the regular October West Ranch Town Council meeting it was determined that since there were four seats up for election and only four application submitted that a formal election was not necessary. The incumbents were in fact reseated for the next Town Council term.

Subsequently, on Wednesday night, November 5th, the West Ranch Town Council held its election of officers pursuant to its bylaws. The positions to be filled were President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer.

Town Council President Dave Bossert spoke about the last several years’ accomplishments by the Council on behalf of the community. Those included tennis courts at Rioux Park; Bathrooms at JK Park; the resolution of the Sunset Point LMD issues; roadway repairs; new traffic lights and other benefits to the community. He also praised the Town Council members for their dedication and passion in selflessly serving the community.

Mr. Bossert did acknowledge that the lack of additional applications appeared to indicate that the community was in fact pleased with the accomplishments to date of the current Council. This was met with a round of applause by the community members in attendance.

Bossert went onto praise Vice President Ron Mechsner as a great colleague and confidant. Also, pointing out that Ron was a terrific colleague that was able to apply his analytical skills to a variety of issues and have spirited discussions about various topics while being able to help build a consensus. He then nominated Mr. Mechsner to be President of the West Ranch Town Council.

The motion was seconded and with no further discussion Ron Mechsner was confirmed as the new President of the West Ranch Town Council. Brian Toqe was nominated to continue as the Council Secretary; James Zimmerman was nominated to continue as Council Treasurer; and Dave Bossert was nominated to take the position of Vice President. All the officers were unanimously approved for office.
