The Community Hiking Club will host a Save the Condors Stewardship Event and Magic Mountain Micro-trash clean up event this Saturday, October 4th. This is a micro-trash clean up (broken glass, bottle caps, etc.), litter and major dumping clean up as well. Condors have been known to eat glass shards and also feed them to their young, resulting in their death. This clean up will be a major contribution to the environment, and especially to the well being of the Condors. Please help!!! Time is 8:30-3:00. Please meet before 8:30 at the Bear Divide Picnic area. Those participating will depart at 8:30, so be there a few minutes early. If you come late, you can find hikers and volunteers somewhere along Santa Clara Divide Road. Bring water, lunch, hand rake or a plastic spoon, a few trash bags or grocery bags, and work gloves. (You are not obligated to stay the entire time)
Directions: Exit SR-14 at Sand Canyon Road. Go South. Pass all the houses and enter Angeles National Forest Land. Continue up the hill until you reach Bear Divide Road. Turn Right. Those interested should meet at the Bear Divide Picnic area at the corner of this intersection. At 8:30, volunteers will depart UP Santa Clara Divide Road at 9:00 to pick up trash and micro-trash along the way. If you’re late, backtrack just a little to Santa Clara Divide Road. Turn up this road until you see some of the volunteers hard at work. If anyone has a truck, there will be larger trash items to pick up as well as the micro-trash.
