Suspect Surrenders after Standoff at Hotel in Stevenson Ranch
Posted by admin under Crime , Local , Stevenson Ranch Comments OffGuests were evacuated and roads closed during Stevenson Ranch ordeal. A man wanted for questioning in a slew of crimes caused an evacuation of a local hotel Friday and was barricaded in his room until surrendering peacefully.
The nearly four-hour incident ended about 7:45 p.m. after the man, identified as Travis Smith, 26, came out of the room and turned himself over to Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies. Nobody was injured reports Judy O’Rourke for the Daily News.
Deputy Joe Trejo spoke to Smith during the standoff when Smith called down to the front desk and hotel employees handed Trejo the phone.
“He was upset. He was tired,” Trejo said. “As long as he was on the phone, he wasn’t hurting himself or anyone else.”
Smith eventually came out after deputies negotiated with him and persuaded him to surrender. He was arrested on suspicion of making terrorist threats, grand theft and other charges. A gun was found in his room.
Evacuees said deputies came shortly before 4 p.m. to their third-floor rooms at the Comfort Suites on Pico Canyon Road and guided them to safety.
