For the period of Friday, April 27th through Sunday, April 29th Santa Clarita Sheriff Personnel issued approximately 111 citations and warnings for traffic, parking and other related traffic offenses including misdemeanors and infractions. Deputies responded to 22 traffic collisions or related incidents.

Station personnel arrested and booked, or field released, 30 adults and detained 6 juveniles on 20 felony, 14 misdemeanor and 2 infraction primary charges as summarized below:

Friday -April 27, 2007 -9:13 a.m.-Unincorporated L. A. County – Stevenson Ranch: Armed bank robbery leads to pursuit and arrests – A sheriff’s deputy assigned to the Los Angeles County Sheriff Department’s Commercial Crimes Bureau, who happened to be in the area of the Washington Mutual Bank – 25880 The Old Road, observed a robbery in progress Friday and alerted the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station. Responding deputies spotted the suspects vehicle and a pursuit was initiated on the southbound Golden State (5) Freeway when the driver failed to stop. The pursuit terminated on Hayvenhurst Avenue in Granada Hills where two of the suspects ran from the vehicle and the third suspect (driver) was arrested. A lengthy containment and house to house search of the area resulted in a Sheriff Department’s Special Enforcement Bureau K-9 Team locating the two suspects hiding in a garage. Both the suspects sustained dog bites when they were taken into custody. The driver of the vehicle, Marie Newton, FH/41, of North Hollywood was booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station on a felony Robbery charge. She is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail. The other two suspects were treated at the scene by paramedics and were transported to a local hospital for medical clearance prior to booking at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station. The second suspect, Bobby Black, MB/46, of Los Angeles faces felony Robbery charges and is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail. The third suspect, Leroy Johnson, MB/61, transient, faces felony Robbery charges and is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail. The operation involved the collaborative effort of a number of agencies and entities including: The Los Angeles County Sheriff Department’s Santa Clarita Valley Station, Crescenta Valley Station, Transit Services Bureau, Special Enforcement Bureau (SEB) and Aero Bureau; the California Highway Patrol’s Newhall and West Valley Divisions; Los Angeles Police Department’s Devonshire and Mission Community Police Stations, Metro K-9 and Air Support; the Los Angeles Unified School District’s Valley East and West Divisions; the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) and Los Angeles City Fire Department Paramedics. -ref 07837

Friday – April 27, 2007 – 5:50 p.m. – Canyon Country: Deputy Lander arrested a Newhall man on a warrant and drug related charges after conducting a traffic stop near Sierra Highway and Via Princessa and reportedly finding him in possession of methamphetamine. The suspect, MO/31, was booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station on a misdemeanor warrant and a felony charge of Possession of a Controlled Substance. He is being held in lieu of $65,000 bail. -ref 07865

Friday – April 27, 2007 – 7:45 p.m. – Canyon Country: Deputies Ferreira and Vaziri arrested Steven Davanzo, MW/49, of Santa Clarita on suspicion of Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol/Drugs after the vehicle he was reportedly driving was involved in a collision with parked vehicles in the 19300 block of Soledad Canyon Road. No one was injured. The suspect was booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station on a misdemeanor charge of Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol/Drugs. Friday – April 27, 2007 – 11:30 p.m. – Valencia: Samuel Dennis, MW/20, of Valencia was arrested at the hospital Friday for assault with a deadly weapon after a disagreement between he and one of his friends reportedly escalated to involve a knife. The incident occurred inside a vehicle in the 24400 block of Mcbean Parkway. The victim, a Fontana man, was treated for lacerations on his arm and leg. The suspect was booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station on a felony charge of Assault with a Deadly Weapon. He posted bond and was released pending future court proceedings. -ref 07879

Saturday – April 28, 2007 – 1:16 a.m. – Canyon Country: Deputies Ferreira and Vaziri arrested Moses Wright, MW/27, of Saugus on suspicion of Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol/Drugs after stopping him near Sierra Highway and Adon Street. The suspect was booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station on a misdemeanor charge of Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol/Drugs. He was later released on citation pending future court proceedings.-ref 07881

Saturday -April 28, 2007- 5:10 p.m. -Unincorporated L. A. County – Stevenson Ranch: Deputies arrested Patricia Acosta, FH/18, of Valencia and Shamrock Clifton, FO/19, of Valencia on theft related charges after they reportedly stole several items of clothing from the Old Navy and Marshalls clothing stores. Both suspects were booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station on felony Burglary charges and are being held in lieu of $20,000 bail, respectively. -ref 07910

Saturday – April 28, 2007 – 6:30 p.m. – Newhall: A Newhall man was arrested Saturday evening after fighting with deputies in the wash area near the 25000 block of San Fernando Road. The deputies contacted the suspect, Juan Payan, MH/25, who was apparently living in the wash and determined he had several no bail warrants. When they attempted to arrest him the suspect resisted, striking one of the deputies and attempting to get away. After a lengthy struggle the suspect was taken into custody. He was booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station on a felony charge of Resisting an Executive Officer. He also had three drug related warrants and is being held without bail. The deputies were not seriously injured. -ref 07921

Saturday – April 28, 2007 – 7:00 p.m. – Canyon Country: Breanne Mullings, FW/18, of Agua Dulce was arrested Saturday after she allegedly stole cosmetic items from the Canyon Country Wal-Mart. She was booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station on a misdemeanor Theft charge and was later released on citation pending future court proceedings.-ref 07923 

Sunday – April 29, 2007 – 1:18 a.m. – Valencia: Deputy Schalkx arrested Mark Gendein, MW/39, of Valencia on suspicion of Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol/Drugs after the motorcycle he was reportedly riding was involved solo accident near Mcbean Parkway and Aveneda Navarre. The suspect was not seriously injured and was booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station on a misdemeanor charge of Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol/Drugs. He was later released on citation pending future court proceedings. -ref 07936

Sunday – April 29, 2007 – 4:45 a.m. – Canyon Country: Deputies arrested Javier Torres, MH/26, of Canyon Country after a verbal altercation between him and another man, who was reportedly his friend, escalated into violence. Deputies report that the suspect broke windows on the victim’s car, brandished a knife and cut the victim’s arm. It appears alcohol was involved in the incident. The victim sustained minor injuries. The suspect was booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station on felony charges of Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Vandalism. He is being held in lieu of $30,000 bail. -ref 80093

Sunday – April 29, 2007 – 6:30 a.m. – Newhall: Deputies responded to a Newhall residence regarding a family disturbance where the father was reportedly restraining his son and was asking for law enforcement intervention. When deputies arrived, two men were holding the subject down and were asking for help. When the deputies attempted to handcuff the subject he became combative and struggled with them, punching one of them. The deputies continued to struggle with the subject until assisting deputies arrived. The subject, MW/17, was taken into custody and was transported to a local hospital for evaluation. One of the deputies sustained a laceration and was treated at a local hospital and released. The subject was later booked at the Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Station on a felony charge of Resisting an Executive Officer. He was transported to Sylmar Juvenile Hall for housing pending future court proceedings. -ref 80094

Sunday – April 29, 2007 – 8:25 a.m. – Canyon Country: A Beverly Hills man reportedly witnessed two suspects vandalizing a bus bench near Whites Canyon Road and Delight Street and detained one of them until deputies arrived. The suspect, MW/21, of Canyon Country was booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station on a felony Vandalism charge. He also faces a misdemeanor charge of Possession of Marijuana. He is being held in lieu of $20,000 bail. The second suspect, FH/18, is still being sought. -ref 07951

Sunday – April 29, 2007 – 4:50 p.m. – Valencia: Rosa Rodriguez, FH/31, of Lancaster was arrested Sunday after a loss prevention officer reportedly spotted her stealing cosmetic items from the Valencia Sears Store. She was detained until deputies arrived. The suspect had prior incidents of theft and was booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station on a felony Theft charge. She is being held in lieu of $20,000 bail.-ref 07971

Sunday – April 29, 2007 – 6:30 p.m. – Saugus: Road rage incident leads to two arrests – Deputies Butler and Larkin where in the area of Bouquet Canyon Road and Soledad Canyon Road when they observed two females on the ground fighting. Further investigation revealed that the suspect and victim had exchanged words and gestures regarding driving. Following the exchange one of the suspects, Amber Vincent, FB/27, of Los Angeles escalated the incident by approaching the victim’s vehicle and reportedly assaulting her as she got out. Suspect Vincent was booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station on a misdemeanor Battery charge. She also had two misdemeanor warrants and is being held in lieu of $31,250 bail. A second man, who was a passenger in the suspect’s vehicle, reportedly brandished a knife during the incident. He, Mark Vincent, MB/38, of Canada was booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station on a misdemeanor charge of Brandishing a Deadly Weapon. He also had a misdemeanor warrant and is being held without bail pending United States Immigration Proceedings. -ref 07979
